Fenerbahçe's Uslu: Osimhen Won't Join, We Must Build to Beat Him

Mahmut Uslu, a former Fenerbahçe secretary general now on the board list of presidential hopeful Aziz Yıldırım, has ruled out a move for Victor Osimhen despite praising the Galatasaray forward.

Uslu made the comments to HT Spor, as Fenerbahçe prepares for a leadership vote on 6-7 June. He said every team would want Osimhen, but the Nigerian will not cross Istanbul to join the Yellow Canaries.

He called Osimhen, the former African Footballer of the Year, one of Turkish football's most impactful players and argued Fenerbahçe should concentrate on countering him rather than signing him. "We will build a squad that can stop a team with Osimhen. If we make Kadıköy unbeatable, we will be champions," Uslu said.

The remarks follow Osimhen's permanent switch to Galatasaray on 31 July 2025, when the club triggered a €75 million clause from Napoli. The transfer set a Turkish record. Osimhen, who helped deliver the Süper Lig title, remains under contract with Galatasaray until June 2029.

Asked to name a Galatasaray player he would take, Uslu pointed to Osimhen but added the move would not happen. "Who wouldn't want a player like Osimhen? But he won't come to us. His destinations are clear," he said.
