The Nigeria Football Federation is reportedly set to open discussions with Brentford right-back Michael Kayode in a bid to convince the 21-year-old to represent the Super Eagles instead of Italy.
According to Pulse Sports Nigeria, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has approved the move, as the NFF moves to strengthen the team’s right-back options.
Kayode, born in Borgomanero, Italy, to Nigerian parents, has represented Italy at youth levels and remains provisionally tied to the Azzurri. The former Fiorentina defender, known for his pace and long throws, has previously expressed a preference for a senior Italy call-up, but no senior cap has yet materialized.
Nigeria currently relies on Bright Osayi-Samuel and Ola Aina at right-back, but injuries and consistency issues have exposed a lack of depth. Kayode, who made 26 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina in 2024/25 before joining Brentford, reportedly would offer a strong long-term option if the NFF’s talks prove successful.
