Galatasaray winger Yunus Akgün said his team took a crucial step toward the Süper Lig title after its closest rivals dropped points, following a hard-fought victory. “Today’s match was very important. It was tough, we played the game we wanted in the first half, but the second half challenged us,” Akgün said. “We want to walk with confident steps and become champions.”

The 25-year-old international admitted he needed a strong performance and was pleased to deliver. “I needed a performance like this. I wanted to take responsibility and help the team. I’m very happy to have contributed,” he stated. Akgün, who plays as a right-winger midfielder, confirmed he suffered only cramps and no injury.

Akgün, a Galatasaray academy product, has returned from loan spells at Adana Demirspor and Leicester City to become a key figure in the club’s recent title-winning campaigns. Wearing shirt number 11, he continues to play an integral role as Galatasaray pushes for another championship.
