Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has launched a scathing attack on Enzo Fernández following the club’s “disgraceful” Champions League last-16 exit to Paris Saint-Germain.

After a 5-2 first-leg defeat and a heavy aggregate loss, Fernández who captained the side in that match told ESPN Argentina he could not guarantee staying at Chelsea beyond the current season, saying: “I don’t know… then we’ll see.”

Speaking on the Mikel podcast, the former Blues star said: “That’s not a leader. If you have leaders that players respect, you wouldn’t make those statements.” Mikel added: “No player is bigger than the football club. If he’s had enough, put your hands up and get off.”

Mikel, alongside co-host Chris McHardy, made clear his frustration with Fernández’s timing and attitude, arguing such comments would damage morale in the dressing room.
