Nigerian international Chidozie Awaziem has made a remarkable impact at FC Nantes since his return to the club in July 2025, setting a new defensive record in the process. The 29-year-old centre-back, who signed a three-year contract after leaving MLS side Colorado Rapids, has recorded an impressive total of 159 clearances this season, the highest by any player in Ligue 1.
According to French sports reports, Awaziem has emerged as the league's most prolific defender in terms of clearances, leading all players with 159 to his name. No other player in the French top flight has matched his consistency in clearing dangerous balls from the box this campaign.
Awaziem, who previously enjoyed a loan spell at Nantes during the 2017-18 season, has seamlessly reintegrated into the squad as a key starter.
