Following the African Cup of Nations in the Round of 16, the Mozambique President Daniel Francisco Chapo vowed to bet a reward in cash as the Mozambique national team face the Super Eagles of Nigeria. The president made the pledge as part of efforts to boost morale and inspire the Mambas ahead of their crucial knockout-stage encounter in Morocco.
The Mozambique President announced a 500,000 meticais incentive for individual players if they are able to defeat the Super Eagles to victory as they face them on January 5, 2026. The reward, which also extends to members of the technical and coaching crew, is aimed at motivating the squad to push beyond their limits against one of Africa’s most decorated football teams. The cash bonus is estimated to be worth about ₦11.3 million in Nigerian currency.
In a statement addressed to the players and officials, President Chapo commended Mozambique’s performance in the group stage, noting their discipline, courage, and fighting spirit throughout the competition. He described their progression to the knockout phase as unprecedented and urged them to approach the Nigeria match with confidence and belief. According to him, a victory over the Super Eagles would further cement the team’s growing reputation on the continental stage.
The highly anticipated encounter between Mozambique and Nigeria is scheduled for Monday, January 5, with kickoff set for 8:00 p.m. at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco.
