Oliseh Backs Ndidi for Super Eagles Captaincy, Urges Tough Leadership

Oliseh supported Ndidi leadership

Nigerian football legend, Sunday Oliseh, has named his likely choice for the next Super Eagles captain. The former national team coach believes defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is the ideal candidate to take on the leadership role for the Nigerian side.

Speaking on his Oliseh Global Football Analysis podcast, the former Super Eagles player discussed how the team can achieve success and secure better results in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. He emphasized the crucial need for effective leadership within the squad. "The Nigeria team needs leadership, but a kind of leadership that they respect, not leadership that they fear or they like," Oliseh stated. He stressed that a leader ready to guide the team must be firm to ensure the players maintain seriousness and discipline.

Oliseh asserted that defensive stalwart Wilfred Ndidi would be qualified as the team's next captain. "At the moment, I don't think anyone doubts the respect the players have for Ndidi, and he's a player who plays every game," he noted, adding, "I'm not pushing for who will be captain, but I think he will be the captain since he captained the last game." Oliseh concluded that the Nigerian team requires a fearless, Nigerian leader who can drive the team toward significant victories and milestones on the continent.
