Nigerian and Galatasaray star striker Victor Osimhen has revealed the extent of the lasting damage from the horrific facial injury he suffered in 2021, explaining why the protective mask he wears during games is a necessity. The 26-year-old opened up, detailing that the injury permanently altered his facial function, particularly on the left side. Osimhen stated that the damage is so severe that he can no longer use the left side of his jaw for eating, requiring him to rely solely on the right side.
The emotional reveal came during a recent conversation with German Middleweight boxer Kerim Engizek. Osimhen recounted the terrifying incident, which occurred on November 21, 2021, during a Serie A match against Inter Milan. The injury resulted from a severe, head-on collision with Inter defender Milan Škriniar. The striker was immediately hospitalized following the impact due to the extent of the trauma.
Osimhen detailed the exact moment of the collision and the ensuing medical advice: “So I hit my head on his own head, immediately my left face got cracked, and then I went to the hospital, while the doctor told me I needed surgical treatment.” Initially, Osimhen was reluctant to undergo the procedure, insisting, “I don't do surgery.” However, according to the striker, the doctor told him he must undergo surgery if he really wanted to get back to his football career. The extensive surgery involved implanting multiple plates and screws, saving his career but leaving a permanent mark on his life.
