Erling Haaland Backs England World Cup Bid, Praises Jude Bellingham

Erling Haaland comforting Jude Bellingham after the Norway vs. England match

Erling Haaland expressed support for England at the FIFA World Cup 2026 during a media appearance this week. Speaking to reporters at an official World Cup press conference, the Norway and Manchester City striker confirmed he wants England to perform well in the tournament.

Haaland cited his Manchester City teammates who play for England, France and Spain as the reason. He added that he owned an England national team jersey as a child before getting a Norway shirt, and called England a “beautiful country” with a “beautiful” jersey.

The 25-year-old also addressed his relationship with England midfielder Jude Bellingham. Haaland said the two are good friends after spending two years together at Borussia Dortmund. He stated they remain in constant contact.

Haaland referenced Bellingham’s recent match performance, noting he was not surprised the midfielder scored twice. He defended Bellingham against criticism over goal output, saying the player does not deserve it because he is one of the best players in the world. Haaland added that Bellingham is a midfielder who still scores and can dribble past opponents.

Norway did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which is being hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Haaland’s comments came after Norway’s elimination, when he was asked whether he would support his club teammates in the tournament.

He confirmed he wants his Manchester City colleagues to succeed. England and Spain are among the national teams with multiple City players. The tournament is scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
