Mexico defeated Czechia 3-0 in a Group A match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 at Mexico City Stadium in Mexico City on Wednesday.
The victory secured first place for the co-hosts while eliminating the Czech side from contention. Mexico capitalized on home advantage and clinical finishing after a goalless first half to advance to the knockout stage.
Mateo Chávez of Mexico scored the opening goal in the 55th minute, assisted by Luis Romo. Julián Quiñones added a second six minutes later in the 61st minute, assisted by Jorge Sánchez. Álvaro Fidalgo sealed the win with a goal in the 90+4th minute, assisted by Rodrigo Alvarado.
Mexico dominated the second half after an even first period where Czechia held their own defensively but failed to create clear chances.
Mexico now tops Group A with three wins, nine points, and a +6 goal difference. Czechia sits fourth with one point and a -4 goal difference after three matches. The result confirmed Mexico’s strong campaign, having previously beaten South Korea and drawn or won other fixtures, while Czechia could not overcome their earlier results.
Mexico will next face their Group A opponent on June 28 in the round of 16.
