Pep Guardiola’s future as Manchester City manager remains unclear following conflicting statements and media reports over the weekend.

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, Guardiola led City to a 1-0 FA Cup final victory over Chelsea at Wembley Stadium, securing his 20th major trophy in 10 years at the club. In a post-match interview with TNT Sports, presenter Laura Woods asked about rumors of his departure. Guardiola replied, “What rumours? Have a lovely evening,” before ending the interview. Earlier that day he told reporters, “I have one more year [on my] contract,” referencing his deal that runs until June 2027.

Despite those comments, speculation intensified on Monday, May 18, 2026, after multiple outlets reported Guardiola could leave this summer. The reports cite an “agreement in principle” between City and Enzo Maresca to replace him, with a contract running until June 2028.

Fabrizio Romano posted that Guardiola is “expected to leave Man City THIS summer” and that “Maresca said yes to Manchester City months ago.”

Manchester City still have two Premier League fixtures remaining this season, against Bournemouth and Aston Villa, before a scheduled trophy parade. City have not addressed the reports publicly. Guardiola has previously said he will “take a break” when he leaves City but has not set a timeline.
