President Donald Trump used a prime-time address from the White House on December 17 to strongly defend his first 11 months in office, presenting his administration as one that is making steady progress despite growing public concerns about the economy.

During the address, President Trump focused on affordability issues affecting American households, including rising prices and cost-of-living pressures. He argued that these economic challenges did not begin under his leadership and instead blamed Democrats for policies he said weakened the economy before his return to office. Trump insisted that his administration is working to reverse those trends through policy reforms, job creation, and what he described as stronger leadership at home and abroad.

“Boy, are we making progress,” Trump told viewers, expressing confidence that his economic agenda will soon deliver visible results. He accentuated early actions taken by his administration and urged Americans to be patient as longer-term plans take effect. The president also framed the upcoming midterm elections as a choice between continuing his policies or returning to what he called failed Democratic leadership.
