FIFA Probes DR Congo Over Player Eligibility Claims, Nigeria Could Benefit

DR Congo is under investigation over allegations that they fielded ineligible players during the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers.

According to the African zone report, up to nine players are alleged to have changed national teams without completing FIFA’s full legal and administrative eligibility process.

Because of this probe, there is speculation that DR Congo could face sanctions if the allegations are proven. Possible punishments could include points deduction, match forfeiture, or disqualification. If that happens, it could improve Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, depending on how the group standings are affected.

It’s important to note that this is still an allegation, not a final decision. FIFA or CAF has not officially announced any punishment yet, and investigations usually take time before conclusions are reached. Until an official ruling is made, no qualification positions have changed.
