Osimhen Injury Update: Galatasaray President Confirms Two-Week Recovery Ahead of AFCON

Osimhen injury update by the Galatasaray president

Following Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen's hamstring injury sustained during the World Cup playoff against DR Congo, the Galatasaray club leader, Dursun Özbek, has provided a final decision on the star's condition just weeks before the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 tournament in Morocco.

Speaking to the Turkish publication Hurriyet, Dursun Özbek confirmed that the Nigerian star’s recovery is expected to be swift. Özbek revealed that Osimhen is on an accelerated rehabilitation plan and should return to the club within two weeks, potentially before Nigeria's initial AFCON fixture. The club president stated, “His Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) was performed at the Turkish. He'll likely have a recovery period of approximately two weeks. Our focus is on Osimhen being ready for the upcoming match, and our doctors are working on that”.

The injury meant the record signing for Galatasaray was sidelined for two key club fixtures. Osimhen missed the league match against Gençlerbirliği and the UEFA Champions League tie against Union Saint-Gilloise. Osimhen will be available to lead the Super Eagles' attack when they kick off their AFCON campaign in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.
