Charlton Athletic have signed Super Eagles goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on a season-long loan from Wrexham.

The deal was confirmed on August 20, 2026, with the 24-year-old joining the Championship club until the end of the 2026/27 season. Okonkwo becomes Charlton's eighth signing of the summer window.

The move sees him link up with a fellow Championship side after three years in Wales, where he made over 100 league appearances and kept 46 clean sheets in 121 games in all competitions since initially arriving on loan from Arsenal in 2023.

The transfer comes after Okonkwo slipped down the pecking order at Wrexham following the arrival of goalkeeper Anthony Patterson from Sunderland this summer. The Nigerian international, who had been Wrexham's first-choice since 2023, was omitted from the squad for the club's opening fixture of the season, a 1-1 draw at Cardiff City.

With first-team opportunities limited and several Championship clubs expressing interest, Okonkwo opted to seek regular football elsewhere. Charlton confirmed the signing in an official statement, describing Okonkwo as a Nigeria international joining on loan from Wrexham.
