Spain defeated Belgium 2-1 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-finals on July 10 at Los Angeles Stadium in Inglewood.
Spanish midfielder Fabián Ruiz and substitute Mikel Merino scored for La Roja, while Belgian forward Charles De Ketelaere replied. The victory propelled Spain into the semi-finals for the first time since 2010.
Fabián Ruiz, opened the scoring in the 30th minute after a close-range finish from a rebound off goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois following a shot by Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo. Belgian forward Charles De Ketelaere equalized in the 41st minute with a header from a cross. Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino netted the winner in the 88th minute on a rebound.
Spain controlled much of the play with superior xG but needed a late strike after Belgium pushed following the equalizer.
Spain, unbeaten in the tournament and advancing as one of the top contenders, now holds a strong knockout record. Belgium exits after a competitive showing, having progressed from the group stage with solid results including a notable win over the United States.
Spain will face France in the semi-final on July 14 at Dallas Stadium.
