Nigerian international defender Benjamin Frederick has rejoined Brentford FC for pre-season training ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.
The 48-shirted defender was seen at the club’s London training ground this week as the squad began preparations for the new season. Frederick’s return comes after an eight-month absence from competitive football due to a serious knee injury.
Frederick, who plays for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, suffered a meniscus injury while on international duty against DR Congo in November 2025. The setback required surgery and ruled him out of the Africa Cup of Nations, ending a run of eight consecutive starts for the national team. He had spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Belgian side FC Dender before returning to Brentford as his loan concluded. Club and national team staff have now cleared him for full training after completing rehabilitation.
Frederick told reporters that he is training and playing without pain again and focused on returning to regular football, with a decision on his next step, whether to stay at Brentford or go on loan.
