Former Nigeria defender William Troost-Ekong spoke emotionally about his absence from the national team, saying he misses the camaraderie of the Super Eagles squad.
In comments published Wednesday by NPFL Updates, the footballer became tearful while describing his connection to the team. “More than anything, I miss being with the guys. I miss being with… this is family to me, you know,” he said.
Troost-Ekong stated that stepping away from the Super Eagles was his decision. He said he often reflects on walking onto the pitch and competing in matches, but holds no regrets. “I have no regrets and I decided to stop. Of course, I thought about it so much, so much went on in my head, but I don’t think I necessarily miss that part,” he said. He added that he may return in the future but is currently content.
The defender said watching the team on television makes him want to rejoin them. “When I see the team on TV now, I have my hands itching like I want to be there with them again, to share those moments,” he said. He emphasized that he misses the team environment most. “Besides that, I’m good, guys.”
