Dutch forward Brian Brobbey and his teammates dismantled Sweden in a dominant Group F encounter on Saturday at Houston Stadium in Houston.
The Netherlands secured a victory that propelled them to the top of the group standings. This result followed their opening 2-2 draw with Japan and strengthens their knockout stage prospects in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Brobbey, the Dutch striker, scored in the 5th minute assisted by Dutch forward Cody Gakpo, and added another in the 17th minute, assisted by Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries. Dutch forward Gakpo netted in the 47th assisted by Dumfries and in the 54th assisted by Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville. Summerville scored in the 89th assisted by Dutch forward Memphis Depay.
Swedish forward Anthony Elanga pulled one back in the 59th assisted by Swedish striker Alexander Isak. The Netherlands dominated the first half with quick attacking transitions, maintained control after halftime despite the Swedish reply, and finished strongly.
The Netherlands sit first in Group F with four points from two matches, a goal difference of +4, and seven goals scored. Sweden occupies second place with three points, a goal difference of zero, and six goals scored overall.
The Netherlands face Tunisia on June 25 in their final group stage match.
