The Morocco captain made his 12th appearance at the tournament in Morocco's 1-0 Group C victory over Scotland at Boston Stadium, during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The result followed Morocco's 1-1 opening draw against Brazil in Philadelphia on June 13, where Hakimi made his 11th World Cup appearance.
Hakimi, 27, entered the 2026 tournament with 10 World Cup caps from the 2018 and 2022 editions. His appearance against Brazil tied him with Cameroon forward Francois Omam-Biyik and Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan, who previously shared the African record with 11 appearances each.
The outing against Scotland moved Hakimi clear at the top of the all-time African list. The Paris Saint-Germain right-back has featured in three World Cups for Morocco and has played in every match for the Atlas Lions since his debut in 2018.
Hakimi made his senior international debut for Morocco in 2016 at age 17. He was a central figure in Morocco's historic run to the semi-finals at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the first African nation to reach that stage, and captained the side to the 2026 tournament. He was named CAF African Player of the Year in November 2025.
Morocco, semifinalists in 2022, are competing in Group C at the 2026 World Cup alongside Brazil, Haiti and Scotland. Hakimi leads a squad that also won Olympic bronze in 2024.
