Ronaldo Refuses Silver Medal After Al Nassr Lose to Gamba Osaka

Cristiano Ronaldo looks down disappointed in his Al Nassr yellow jersey after the 1-0 AFC Champions League Two final loss to Gamba Osaka in Riyadh

Al Nassr lost 1-0 to Japan's Gamba Osaka in the AFC Champions League Two final on Saturday, May 16, at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh.

Gamba took the lead in the 30th minute when Swedish forward Deniz Hummet scored from the visitors' only clear chance of the first half. The Japanese club defended the advantage for the rest of the match to end Al Nassr's unbeaten run in the competition and claim its first Asian title since 2008. The final was played before a home crowd at the King Saud University Stadium, and the win gives Gamba a place in next season's AFC Champions League Elite.

After the final whistle, captain Cristiano Ronaldo walked straight down the tunnel and did not return for the medal ceremony. The 41-year-old, who has yet to win an official trophy since joining Al Nassr in late 2022, left the pitch visibly disappointed. The rest of the squad stayed to collect their silver medals, led to the podium by head coach Jorge Jesus and joined by fellow Portuguese forward João Félix.

The defeat leaves the Saudi Pro League as Al Nassr's only remaining target this season. Jesus said Gamba's early pace surprised his side, and while Al Nassr controlled possession after conceding, they failed to create a decisive chance.

Ronaldo has scored 28 goals across all competitions this term. Al Nassr face Damac FC on Thursday in their final league fixture, where a win would secure the domestic title.
