Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen and members of the Galatasaray squad met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Sunday, May 18, 2026, in Ankara.
The reception took place at the Presidential Complex and included club executives, coaching staff, and players. The visit followed Galatasaray’s title-winning season in Turkish football.
The meeting was organized to honor Galatasaray after the club secured both the Turkish Süper Lig and the Turkish Cup this season. It marks the club’s 25th league championship, granting them the right to add a fifth star to their badge.
During the reception, President Erdoğan shook hands with each member of the delegation and congratulated the team on their achievements. Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, presented his jersey to Erdoğan.
The striker addressed the president, thanking him for hosting the team and noting that the president had previously told them they would meet him if they won the trophy. The event was attended by other key players, including Mauro Icardi, and club president Dursun Özbek.
President Erdoğan addressed the squad, praising Galatasaray’s success and its contribution to Turkish sport. He said the club had achieved a “significant success” by winning both domestic trophies and expressed confidence that Galatasaray would represent the country in the UEFA Champions League next season.
The club’s domestic double caps a season in which Osimhen scored 36 goals across all competitions. The presidential reception is a customary practice in Turkey to recognize league champions. The team is now preparing for the Champions League and the upcoming domestic season.
