Brazilian midfielder Casemiro will leave Manchester United at the end of the 2025/26 season when his contract expires, the club confirmed on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

The 34-year-old announced the decision himself, stating he will carry Manchester United with him “throughout my entire life” and thanked the city, club, and supporters for the four years he called unforgettable. Manchester United said it had the option to trigger a 12-month extension but decided not to renew the deal.

Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in August 2022 for around £70 million. He has made 146 appearances and scored 21 goals to date, helping the club win the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. The club said supporters will have the opportunity to recognize his contributions at the final home game of the season, against Nottingham Forest.

The farewell took place on May 17, 2026, at Old Trafford. After a 3-2 win over Forest, Casemiro addressed the crowd with his family, telling fans “the best thing at this club is you”. Tributes included banners reading “THANK YOU, CASEMIRO” and a large tifo with the Portuguese phrase “até à morte”.

The midfielder said he is not yet saying goodbye and will focus on helping United finish the campaign. Reports indicate Inter Miami has opened talks with Casemiro over a potential free transfer once the season ends.
