Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has said he would be worth €150 million if he were playing in the current football transfer market.
The former Premier League forward made the comment during an interview on the Ay Suga Channel in August 2026. The interview clip, which has since circulated on social media, shows Yakubu reflecting on his career goals, transfer fees and the pressure of big-money moves.
He stated that his record of 95 Premier League goals, the highest tally by a Nigerian player in the competition, and his consistency in England would place him among the most expensive strikers today.
Yakubu explained his valuation by comparing transfer fees from his era with present figures. He noted that forwards who score 10 goals in the Premier League now command fees of around €50 million, while he averaged about 15 goals per season during his time in England. He cited his own £11.5 million transfer from Middlesbrough to Everton in 2007, saying that amount would be equivalent to €150 million in today's market. He had previously joined Middlesbrough from Portsmouth for £7.5 million.
According to Yakubu, such fees brought heavy expectations, as clubs demand that expensive signings deliver consistently to justify their investment.
Yakubu, 42, played 252 Premier League matches for Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn Rovers between 2003 and 2012, scoring 95 goals. He also scored 21 goals in 57 appearances for Nigeria.
