AC Milan winger Alexis Saelemaekers has spoken publicly about teammate Rafael Leao's decision to leave the club. His comments came after Leao confirmed on May 30, 2026, that he will depart San Siro this summer after seven seasons with the Rossoneri.

The Portugal international, who joined from Lille in 2019, announced his intention to seek a new challenge following a season in which Milan finished fifth in Serie A and failed to qualify for the Champions League.

In his statement on the move, Saelemaekers praised Leao's quality and influence on the team while acknowledging the end of their time together. Saelemaekers said: "Rafa is a fantastic player. On his best day, he can change a match single-handedly. No story lasts forever, and the time when paths must part inevitably comes. This was his decision. We're saddened by his departure and wish him all the best."

The Belgian international's remarks underline the mood within the Milan squad as it prepares for a transition. Leao departs having made 291 appearances, scoring 80 goals and providing 55 assists, and winning two major honours including the Scudetto in 2021-22.
