Victor Boniface has returned to Bayer Leverkusen for pre-season training, becoming the first senior player to report back to the Bundesliga club ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The Nigerian international and Super Eagles forward arrived at the club’s training facility this week after a holiday period in Nigeria. His early return marks the start of preparations for the new season under Leverkusen’s coaching staff.
The 25-year-old striker is looking to reset after a challenging 2025/26 season. Last year, a proposed transfer to Saudi side Al Nassr broke down when the club opted to sign John Duran instead. A separate move to AC Milan also did not proceed following concerns raised during his medical assessment.
Boniface later joined Werder Bremen on loan, but his involvement was reduced by recurring fitness issues and injuries. His season ended after he underwent surgery to address a long-standing problem.
