Nigerian forward Femi Azeez marked his international debut with an impressive brace as the Super Eagles defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 in the semi-final of the 2026 Unity Cup on Tuesday at The Valley Stadium.

The 23-year-old, wearing the number 7 jersey, scored both goals to secure Nigeria’s place in the tournament final. Azeez, who recently switched allegiance to Nigeria, delivered a composed performance that highlighted his potential as a key player for the Super Eagles.

In a post-match pitchside interview with Nigeria Football Weekly, Azeez expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. “It’s a dream come true to make my debut and score two goals. I’m just grateful to God, grateful to the team,” he said. “The boys made it easy for me. They welcomed me and gave me confidence. The coach as well – he told me to go out there and express myself. I was a little bit nervous at the beginning, but once I got the first one, it settled me down. Then the second one came, and it was just joy.”

Azeez went on to speak about what the Super Eagles jersey means to him. “Playing for Nigeria means everything. This is my country, my heritage. To do it on debut like this… my family is proud, I’m proud,” he added. He also sent a message to the fans: “Keep supporting us. We’re building something special here. More to come, Insha’Allah.”
