Belgian football manager Vincent Jean Mpoy Kompany, currently at the helm of Bayern Munich, recently revealed the African country he would like to see win the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Speaking in a press interview, Kompany chose the central African nation, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), as his favorite team in the tournament. Stating, “I would like DR Congo to win the AFCON,” Kompany's selection of the Léopards is deeply personal. The DR Congo national team is set to face strong opposition in Group B, which includes reigning champions Senegal, along with Benin and Botswana. Kompany also acknowledged the importance of the tournament to African players, stating that his club fully supports their international commitments.

Vincent Kompany's connection to DR Congo is through his father, Pierre Kompany. Pierre came to Belgium as a refugee from what was then Zaïre in 1975, after protesting the Mobutu Sese Seko regime. He later made history by becoming the first black mayor in Belgium, in the municipality of Ganshoren, highlighting the family's enduring link to the nation.
