Egypt claimed a narrow 2–1 victory over the Nigeria Super Eagles in an international friendly played in Cairo, as both teams continued their preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The Pharaohs took the lead in the 28th minute when midfielder Mahmoud Saber calmly finished after being set up by Zizo. Egypt doubled their advantage shortly after the break, with striker Mostafa Mohamed finding the net in the 52nd minute to cap off a well-worked attacking move. Nigeria responded late in the first half, as defender Chidozie Awaziem reacted quickest to a rebound from Zaidu Sanusi’s free kick, reducing the deficit just before halftime.
Despite several second-half changes from Nigeria, including the introduction of Cyriel Dessers and Semi Ajayi, Egypt maintained their shape and controlled the tempo to see out the win. The result will boost Egypt’s confidence as they fine-tune their tactics ahead of the tournament.
Egypt are scheduled to face Zimbabwe in their final friendly match, while Nigeria will return to the training ground to address defensive lapses and improve cohesion before their AFCON campaign begins.
