Mikel Oyarzabal, the Spanish forward, scored in the 36th minute assisted by fellow Spaniard Marc Cucurella and again in the 89th minute; Pedro Porro, the Spanish defender, headed home in the 66th minute assisted by Spaniard Álex Baena.
Spain controlled possession and territory throughout, maintaining pressure with patient build-up and effective wing play while Austria defended compactly but offered limited threat, resulting in a straightforward dominant performance from the Europeans.
Spain advanced from Group H as winners with seven points and a +5 goal difference after two wins and one draw. The victory extends Spain’s strong tournament form with a clean sheet and progression to the Round of 16.
Spain will face the winner of Portugal or Croatia on July 6 in the Round of 16.
