Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is not expected to play in the club's Champions League opener against Sporting CP on September 9.
Turkish reporter Ali Naci Küçük said his chance of featuring in Lisbon is very low. The update came after Galatasaray issued an official injury statement on Friday, September 5.
Osimhen picked up the injury during Galatasaray's 3-2 win over Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish Super Lig. He opened the scoring in the 16th minute, his sixth league goal in four appearances, before feeling pain in his right groin after a run behind the defense.
The club said initial checks showed strain and pain in the right groin muscle group for Osimhen and teammate Mario Lemina, with treatment already started ahead of the Sporting Lisbon match.
Galatasaray confirmed that advanced examinations, including MRI scans, will be completed tomorrow to determine the full extent of the injuries. The fixture at Estadio Jose Alvalade is the first round of the 2026/27 Champions League group stage.
