Victor Osimhen wearing a black protective face mask celebrates his goal with three Galatasaray teammates during the Turkish Super Lig match against Istanbul Basaksehir

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen scored before suffering a suspected groin injury during his club's 3-2 Turkish Super Lig win over Istanbul Basaksehir on September 4, 2026.

The Nigerian international opened the scoring in the 16th minute at the Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium, finishing an attacking move to give the champions the lead. He was forced off 17 minutes later and replaced by Baris Alper Yilmaz in the 33rd minute with what was described as a suspected muscle or groin issue.

The goal was his sixth of the season, continuing a run of six goals in his last four matches for Galatasaray. Basaksehir responded after the break, but Galatasaray held on for the victory.

Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk addressed the injury after the match. He said both Osimhen and midfielder Mario Lemina had groin issues, with Lemina feeling slight pain in training the day before and Osimhen feeling discomfort during the game.

Buruk said the club would need to conduct MRI scans to assess the full extent of the injuries and expressed hope that the problem is not serious, with a Champions League trip to Sporting scheduled for September 9. The setback also comes less than three weeks before Nigeria begins its 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
