The United States men’s national team defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in the Round of 32 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on July 1 at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The co-hosts secured progression to the knockout stages with goals from American striker Folarin Balogun and midfielder Malik Tillman, overcoming numerical disadvantage after a red card.
Folarin Balogun, the American forward, scored in the 45th minute from a deflected pass by teammate Malik Tillman. Balogun added a second goal in the 64th minute before receiving a red card. Malik Tillman, the German-born American midfielder, converted a free kick in the 82nd minute with no assist.
The victory marked the USA’s third win of the tournament and second-ever World Cup knockout stage success. As Group D winners, the team advanced with strong form, improving their goal difference significantly in the process. Bosnia and Herzegovina, surprise qualifiers, were eliminated after a competitive showing.
The United States will face Belgium in the Round of 16 on July 6.
