UK and Nigeria Forge New Economic Partnership During Landmark State Visit

President Bola and King Charles in the UK event

London – King Charles III welcomed Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Windsor Castle this week for a historic state visit, the first by a Nigerian leader in nearly 40 years. The event marked the beginning of what both nations describe as a "modern economic partnership."

The visit focused on strengthening trade ties between the two countries. With bilateral trade already exceeding £8 billion annually, leaders discussed expanding cooperation in key sectors, including financial services, energy, and infrastructure development.

Beyond economics, the summit addressed pressing global issues. In the lead-up to COP 29, President Tinubu and the King held talks on shared climate change goals. Regional security was also high on the agenda, following recent instability in parts of West Africa.

The cultural exchange extended to lighter moments as well. During his remarks, King Charles III praised Nigerian culture and humorously settled a long-standing culinary debate by declaring Nigerian jollof rice "the best."
