Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey has taken on the captain's armband for Fulham at the start of the 2026/27 Premier League season. The 26-year-old has led the team in its opening three league matches, including a 3-2 defeat to Chelsea at Craven Cottage on August 24.
Speaking in an interview published on Fulham's official website this week, Bassey described the role as a privilege. "Being able to captain this club is unbelievable," he said. "I just be myself and try to help everyone."
The defender said the transition has been natural. Now in his fourth season at Fulham, Bassey said he knows his teammates well and that his position as a centre-half helps him lead through communication and organization. He added that the captaincy has not changed his personality, describing himself as calm and positive before matches.
