Former Nigerian international Odion Ighalo has once again expressed his profound devotion to Manchester United, describing his 2020 move to Old Trafford as the fulfillment of a lifelong ambition.
During an interview with Brila FM, the 36-year-old striker recounted the disbelief he felt upon hearing of the club's interest, revealing that he spent a sleepless night in prayer. Ighalo’s passion was so intense that he reportedly told his agent he would play for the Red Devils for free, even if it were only for a matter of minutes.
The forward’s tenure at Manchester United began during a squad crisis in January 2020 when he joined on loan from Shanghai Shenhua. Recalling that pivotal moment, Ighalo stated: "When I heard Manchester United were interested in me, that night, I couldn't sleep, I didn't believe it... I began to pray, I said I would play for free, for Manchester United, even if it was two minutes." During his stay, he became a fan favorite, contributing five goals in 23 appearances and helping provide vital depth during a challenging period for the club.
Ighalo continues his professional career in the Middle East, having recently featured for Al-Wehda in the Saudi Pro League.
